Artist's Comments

I rather like this even though now that I look back at it, I think I could have done better. At least with that watery background. Oh well, too late for that now.

Shadow of the Colossus. Colossi VII.

This one doesn't seem to have the depth of your usual work. I think going back over it with a white gel pen or some white acrylic to add highlights would be really nice.

Don't talk. Don't talk. It makes it crawl back up.

If you play DDR and you don't think it fun, your not doing it right.

I did try that, actually but I was very disappointed with how it came out. It looked very unnatural and thick like it didn't belong so I gently removed it. The only white acrylic paint and gel pen I used was in the bubbles.

I also wanted the whole piece to be dark and murky (without adding lots of black). I think too much lighting would have ruined that, especially because the colossi is suppose to be so deep under the dark water (I was hoping the silhouette of the boy might show just how deep) that most times in the game it only appeared as a silhouette with glowing eyes and rods on its back. I know most of the people who view this picture wont know that but it can be difficult to draw something one way while trying to keep it as true to the game as possible. *shrug*

I haven't actually played Shadow of the Colossus myself, because I'm terrible at video games, but I watched my friend play it. And I think it's a beautiful game.

Not familiar with it, but ... I do have the sudden urge to scream out "EAT THAT FUCKER!" o.O Wow. You inspire me. XD!!!!!

In any case... my sister has a fear of big things in the water that could potentially eat her. I will not tell her about this picture. =D

Great tones.

"Ya dead Jim." No way in hell, can you fight that thing, without some sort of aquatic mode, just no way, I'm sorry, game over, go back home and get dry. (This commentray brought to you by Slug's Boss critique enterprises '06)

In all seriousness, though, nice job, mainly with the foregroud of this piece, where we can see nice splash effects, water in motion, and such around the tail and about the surface, where the hero is, and the beast (colossus, whatever) is nicely toned out. Reading some of the other comments, you seemed to want to keep a dark feel to it, but with out black, I think that's a bit weird, but really it turned out well enough for us to see it, but still portray a sense of depth, or at least of water.
